Pay Now Or Pay Later

Matthew 7:26-27         But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.

As we come to the end of the Sermon on the Mount I want you to remember the principle taught in these verses. It is important for you to know the reality of spiritual and moral truths. They are true. You know it when the opposite actually occurs.

The builder who places his home on a foundation of sand looks pretty smart at the outset. He uses all the same resources any other builder uses. He pours the same foundation and constructs the home with the same materials. It should be fine, like all the others.

This is exactly what we say to ourselves and others in our life. The way I am doing things is fine. I can repair things later. When the time is right and the other person is receptive we will talk and reconcile. On we go with reasons to accept our present condition and look to the future for changes. Why do today what can be put off to tomorrow? Right?

These verses show us that the truth about our lives will not be known until a time of crisis or until the day we die. Do you want to risk the later if things need to change today. Do you want to put off something to tomorrow that could possibly change your life for the good, starting today?

Finally, remember that at a future date there are some things that cannot be changed. They can only be changed now. So if your debating the issues surrounding God, yourself and the world around you, may you begin to think of them in light of this fact, some things cannot be changed later, they must be changed now.
