Galatians
1:1-2 Paul, an apostle—not from men nor
through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from
the dead— and all the brothers who are with me.
Ministers never choose
their profession. They are chosen by God and sent to the place He has chosen
for them to serve Him. In fact, all Christians have been chosen by God as Paul
writes in Ephesians 2:8-10:
For by grace you have been saved
through faith. And this is not your own doing… For we are his workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we
should walk in them.
Some may find it uncomfortable to think that God has a
plan for all His children. The life we live by faith in Jesus Christ is a life
God has intended for us from the beginning. As Paul mentions here, his work
among the churches of Galatia is part of God’s plan for their lives. His
teachings are to benefit and strengthen the faith they have in Jesus. Nothing
about his letter is to be construed as “his”, Paul’s plan for them. Paul is
helping them to understand the faith they have professed and it’s implication
for their life as a group of believers.
